Marin Century Training Series - #11 -- (79.7 miles/4600 ft/Social/Margie)

About this event

Train with us for the Marin Century! This ride is the eleventh of 13 consecutive Sunday rides, gradually progressing, to prepare you for the 100-mile Marin Century on August 1. This week is the toughest ride of the whole series. If you can do this one, you can finish the Marin Century 102 mile route. Distance is 79.7 miles with 4600 feet of climbing.

Roll from Marinwood Community Center in Northern San Rafael promptly at 8 am and expect to spend at least 7 hours together.  There will be some new territory including shady Lucas Valley Road (aka Big Rock climb) and some exploring of the residential areas of Novato. There is also a lot of territory from the Marin Century route.

The biggest climbs are Big Rock (mile 5), Olema Hill (mile 20), Wilson Hill (mile 59), Novato Blvd (mile 64) and there are more kickers on top of those. There are some great downhills.

Pace will be social, averaging 12 - 14 mph overall moving speed, depending on the participants. We will have two pace groups if there are enough registrants. Water and restrooms are readily available: at the start, mile 10 (Nicasio), mile 23 (Pt Reyes Station), mile 40 (Tomales), and mile 67 (Stafford Lake). Our coffee and lunch stop will be in Tomales (mile 40). There are a couple more sources of water later in the ride if it's a hot day. Road bikes with slick tires are recommended. Make sure you have two, full, large water bottles.

You can come along whether you are riding the Century or not. If you missed the first rides in this series, but feel able to ride 79+ tough miles, come along!
